Indiana’s 59th Secretary of State
201 Statehouse Indianapolis, IN 46204

Dear Highland Residents,

For the last five years, I’ve been honored to serve Indiana as your Secretary of State. As a native of the Region, I know well our concerns as well as our aspirations. That is why as Indiana’s Chief Election Official, I am so proud of our effort to eliminate voter fraud throughout the state and especially in Northwest Indiana. I am also very proud of the high standard of professionalism we have attained in administering the Secretary of State’s office.

Professionalism is an important quality to me—it is the foundation for open, transparent and accountable government. That is why I am pleased to let you know of my complete endorsement of Pat Popa, Joe Wszolek and Dan Dernulc as your representatives to Highland’s Town Council. I have personally witnessed each of these candidates’ commitment to professionalism. And you have as well. For example, you have seen them:
  • create and implement a detailed strategic plan for Highland.
  • ensure that all state and federal laws requiring studies are completed before vendors are contracted.
  • create and follow an ethics ordinance that ensures open and transparent government.
  • conduct their campaign by engaging you in discussion, rather than bombarding you with negativity and empty political rhetoric.

We have also seen these three candidates employ solid leadership and fiscal principles in their official positions. For example, Pat Popa, Joe Wszolek and Dan Dernulc have and will:

  • keep Highland’s property tax rate the 5th lowest of all cities and towns in the entire county.
  • focus on redevelopment, which will also keep your property taxes low.
  • appoint commissioners to boards after an interview process (no political appointments).
  • call for the hiring of a Town Manager, following the 21st Century strategy of many successful similar-sized communities across the state and nation.

For all of these reasons, I urge you on Tuesday, November 6th to vote for:
Pat Popa, Joe Wszolek and Dan Dernulc.

And, thank you for continuing to make Indiana and Highland your home.

Sincerely,

Todd Rokita
Indiana Secretary of State
